However, former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah lashed out at the 80,000 crore rupee package announced by Prime Minister Modi, saying he had repeated his mistake of trying to solve the “Kashmir issue” with money. He said the treasure of Delhi is for them and his heart too is with them.

A special aircraft carrying the prime minister landed at Srinagar global Airport around 11.20 a.m.

“Kashmir manages to drag me back every time and I have always felt the love of Kashmiri’s”. (Without Kashmiriyat, India is incomplete). However, he steered clear of long pending dispute regarding Jammu and Kashmir. No matter how much the world advances, without humanity, we are nowhere.

The prime minister said his “first priority is relief for the flood victims, for farmers, for businessmen, for employment to local youth and infrastructure development”.

On tourism, the prime minister said 1.75 crore Indians go overseas as tourists every year. Now, we need growth and development here.

SRINAGAR, IndiaSecurity forces have detained almost 400 Kashmiri separatists to prevent them marching in protest during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Saturday, police said, raising tension in the disputed territory. “I’m hopeful that my Kashmir will rise once again”, he said.

Invoking former PM and senior BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Modi reiterated that his government would follow a holistic path based on three mantras “Insaniyat, Jamhuriyat and Kashmiriyat” (humanism, democracy and Kashmir’s legacy of amity).

“Skill development is your dream and Kashmir is known for its handicrafts”, he said referring to Modi’s “Skill India” initiative.

“The present government is very sincere, very honest and anything that comes forward will come with an earnest desire to deliver to the people of the Valley”, he said.

“The Prime Minister will inaugurate the 450 MW Baglihar Hydro Electric Project Stage-II, and lay the foundation stone for the 4-laning of the Udhampur-Ramban and Ramban-Banihal section of National Highway 44, at a function in Chanderkote, Ramban”.

He called the assistance a gift and said it was just a beginning. “Modi perhaps is coming here to announce the economic package but the people have clearly rejected it by showing resilience”.

“About 15 to 20 percent population of the state is comprised of refugees who came here after 1947”.

“The package includes rehabilitation of those refugees and also the Kashmiri Pandit migrants who left their homes behind in the Valley”. He also mentioned how the construction of new highways had increased from 5.2 km per day in 2012-13 and 8.7 km per day in 2013-14 to 23.4 km per day.
