Though the youths pleaded that they were from the skinner community, the ‘gau-rakshaks’ thrashed them alleging that they were involved in cow slaughter.

“In the name of cow protection, these fake cow protectors are trying to disturb the peace and harmony of the nation”.

“I request the state governments to make a list of such fake vigilantes and take stringent action against them”, he said in a function in India’s state of Telangana on Sunday.

PM Modi again hits out against cow vigilantes and said strict action should be taken against them.

India is a land of diversity, he said, adding “protecting our country’s unity and integrity is our primary responsibility”.

The Government has taken up several programmes for the well being of Dalits, including making it mandatory for banks to give them loans so that instead of “job seekers they can become job givers”, he said. “But these fake gau rakshaks are not concerned about cows”, the PM further said. There is a need to punish these people.

Breaking his long silence over growing Cow vigilantism in the country yesterday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that such people do so only to cover their “anti social” activities.

On a whirlwind tour of Telangana, the PM will also lay foundation stones for the FCIL fertiliser plant in Ramagundam, the Manoharabad to Kothapally railway line, and the Kaloji Narayana Rao Universty of Health Sciences at Warangal.

Earlier, the Prime Minister dedicated a 1,200 MW power project set up by Singareni Collieries to the nation.

Union Minister for Urban Development, Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation and Information & Broadcasting, M Venkaiah Naidu, the Chief Minister of Telangana, K Chandrasekhar Rao and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment (Independent Charge), Bandaru Dattatreya are also seen.

A dossier of such ‘gaurakshaks’ would reveal that 70-80% of them are anti-social elements
