Travel time between Delhi and Meerut will be reduced with the construction of a new expressway between the two cities for which the foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here today.

While speaking at a public meeting in Noida shortly after launching a 14-lane expressway between Delhi and Meerut in Western Uttar Pradesh, Modi said, “Those, who have enjoyed power for 50-60 years, they have no right to destroy the working of the Parliament”.
Asking the Congress not to create hurdles in the country’s development, he said, “They should know better what is the role of government and how it should function”.
He hoped the New Year would be different.
“New laws are needed in many fields, but it is the misfortune of the country that parliament, where laws are formulated, is not allowed to function”, the prime minister said. He also highlighted the benefits that would be reaped merely because of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and said that it was not just an expressway but a road of development.
Modi further said that the tactics adopted by the Congress party to disrupt proceedings in Parliament were aimed at “destroying the temple of democracy”. “There are some laws that are outdated for welfare of the poor and development of the country”, Modi said after laying the foundation stone of the Delhi-Meerut Expressway here.
The Prime Minister said “weekend holidays” are being preferred by middle and upper middle class families due to their hectic schedules and connecting a city with town and villages through good roads would attract more tourism.
The construction of Rs 7,500 crore expressway will be done by upgrading the exiting highway. “Small time tea sellers, dhaba owners will benefit immensely from this”, he added.
He recalled the vision of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee about road connectivity in the nation.
