The Indian premier expressed similar views in last week’s G20 Summit in China and blamed Pakistan for spreading agents of terror in South Asia. ‘Our commitment is to work for peace, stability and prosperity in the area, ‘ stressed the leader.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines of the summit, Modi met United States President Barack Obama today.

Commenting on Modi-Xi meeting, Hu Shisheng, Director of theChina Institutes of Contemporary International Relations affiliated to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, said India-China ties faced serious tensions over issues relating to Pakistan.

Although he did not name any country in his speech, he was clearly pointing to Pakistan, quite like how he did while addressing world leaders at the G20 summit in Hangzhou, China, on September 5.

“In the afternoon, the president will hold a bilateral meeting with (Modi)”, the White House said in its daily guidance released to the press.

The Prime Minister also used the two regional fora to sent out a strong message to Pakistan against sponsoring terror, calling upon the worldwide community to isolate the nation.

Earlier on August 12, Pakistan offered to hold discussions with India to calm unrest in Kashmir, but New Delhi turned down the offer.

2017 will mark 25 years of India’s dialogue partnership with ASEAN, and several commemorative activities will also be announced by Modi to celebrate the occasion. Seamless digital connectivity between India and Southeast Asia is a shared objective.

The direct push to isolate and sanction Pakistan and the care to not escalate tensions with China, while sticking to India’s traditional posture on the South China Sea, reflect a tactical balance the Narendra Modi government is trying to maintain, senior officials told The Telegraph.

“India supports freedom of navigation, over flight, an unimpeded commerce, based on the principles of global law, as reflected notably in the 1982 United Nations Conventions on the law of the sea”, he said. During the meeting, Laos Prime Minister reiterated his country’s support to India as a permanent member of a reformed and expanded UN Security Council.
