PM Modi addresses a farmers rally in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh
Bareilly: The government wants to double farmers’ income by 2022 to mark 75 years of independence, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, listing his administration’s agriculture initiatives to counter Opposition allegations of being corporate driven. “We should all promise to double the income of farmers by that time”, Modi said while addressing “Kisan Rally” here.

“The budget could provide resources to expand the coverage and effectiveness of schemes such as crop insurance, food and fertilizer subsidy, and irrigation”, Chand told Reuters. The PM also said that Government’s move of neem coating urea had benefitted the farmers as well as boosted the yield.
“The crop insurance scheme would give you cover to any natural disaster and now 90 per cent of the premium is borne by the Central government with compensation being paid within 14 days”, he stated with mentioning how the farmers of UP had to face the wrath of unseasonal rains past year.
Similarly agriculture land should also be divided into three parts like, the original land for traditional cultivation, sowing of timber trees on the border of their land to earn extra money and involvement of farmers in animal husbandry and dairy development projects.
Stressing the need to properly highlight electrification of villages, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Power Ministry must strive to complete electrification of 200 villages every week by following up with state implementing agencies regularly”, a source said.
Calling them the pride of the nation, the PM encouraged the farmers to make use of government schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, as well as the Soil Health Card which can help improve soil qualities. “The Bundelkhand region has five rivers but there is scarcity of even drinking water and I feel ashamed of this”, he said.
The PM also described how the Centre was promoting the farm sector worth over Rs 50,000 crore.
