Similarly, all other locations where general public assemble in large numbers have been brought under heightened surveillance as part of larger security measures in view of the Independence Day celebrations.
Around 5,000 personnel from the local police, Special Cell and Security wing of the Delhi Police have been deployed while the traffic police will maintain smooth traffic flow.
Since Modi became prime minister, the number of metal detectors has been increased to ensure smooth movement so that more common people can listen to his speech.
PM chose this same day to announce several schemes like Make in India, Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Jan Dhan Yojana, and Adarsh Gram Yojana.
The special commandos will be equipped with fully automatic Beretta assault rifles, high-tech communication gadgets, body armour, protective helmets, knee pads and gloves, etc.
“We have laid out a ground-to-air security apparatus to counter any possible terror strike”, said a senior Delhi Police official. “A central control room has also been set up at Red Fort to constantly monitor the situation”, the official said. Security forces with snipers have been posted at high-rise buildings to keep a hawk eye on any suspicious activity. Traffic regulations are also in place around Fort St George.
Security personnel have been deployed at the airport, market places, railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and metro stations in major Indian cities.
“There is a multilayer security arrangement in the capital on the Independence occasion”.
