Inviting a galaxy of Swiss business leaders to invest in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here on Monday that India needs to create an economy of the order of “two or three Switzerlands”, which provides a massive opportunity for partnerships. We promised India support in its efforts to become a member of this group, the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Traditional security challenges as well as new challenges, like cyber security, were discussed during the talks, the US President said.
Following Tuesday’s talks, Obama will host Modi for lunch. Since their first meeting at the White House in September 2014, after Prime Minister Modi came to power in May that year, the two leaders have met six times.
-Modi is also set to become the fifth Indian PM to address a joint session of the US Congress. Rajiv Gandhi was the first, in 1985.
On Monday, Modi will visit the Arlington National Cemetery and lay a wreath. Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch was also present at the event.
Obama’s leaves office with Modi transformed from persona non grata to celebrated guest.
Prime Minister Modi and President Barack Obama, share a special relationship that has greatly enhanced strategic ties between the largest and oldest democracies.
There are the gushing comments: Modi “transcends the ancient and the modern”, Obama wrote in Time magazine. “Participating jurisdictions that implement AEOI send and receive pre-agreed information each year, without having to send a specific request”, the Swiss government said, adding that AEOI will allow discovery of formerly undetected tax evasion and black money.
“India is a young country and we are aware of the talent it has”.
The respect is particularly sweet in Washington.
However, while the US has pledged to join as soon as possible, India has made no such public pronouncements, underscoring a concern the Modi-led government has aired in the past regarding the perceived lack of “common but differentiated responsibilities”.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today held discussion, covering wide ranging issues, with the American think tanks, representing whole range of spectrum of opinion as he began the forth leg of his five-nation tour.
Obama went one step further, urging nuclear powers to readmit India to a group of countries permitted to trade sensitive nuclear materials.
Meanwhile, the leaders also pledged to improve existing trade relations and make business between India and Qatar easier by speeding up the process for getting business and tourist visas for nationals from the two countries.
The newspaper, however, drew some “similarities that extend beyond political beliefs” between the two.

In a report on May 29, TOI had said PM Modi will take a detour to Switzerland on his way to the United States and that AEOI was on his agenda for the visit.
