When Modi reached at Jati Umrah Raiwind residence, situated on the outskirts of Lahore, Sharif’s son Hasan and different family members acquired him warmly.

Sharif had attended Modi’s oath taking in New Delhi in May 2014.
“And the PM said to him, ‘Please come, you are our guest, please come and have tea with me, ‘” he said.
Mr Modi was eager for Russian Federation to participate in various infrastructure projects as his government strives to revamp India’s railway network and build nuclear energy plants to meet growing electricity needs. The two countries recently chose to launch a comprehensive dialogue after Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif met in Paris.
A spokesman at Sharif’s office earlier told Reuters the two leaders were to discuss a range of bilateral issues, including the disputed Himalayan region of Kashmir, the most contentious issue dividing the nuclear-armed rivals.
The visit was the first by an Indian PM to Pakistan in 11 years.
“But yes, it’s a clear signal that active engagement can be done at a quick pace”, the aide said, declining to be identified.
“For its part, India is prepared to move our cooperation at a pace which Pakistan is comfortable with”. It was also be the first visit to Pakistan by an Indian Prime Minister in 12 years.
The two countries have fought three wars since independence from Britain in 1947, two of them over Kashmir.
At the meeting in Ufa, Mr. Modi had conveyed to Mr. Sharif his strong concerns about continuing cross-border terrorism, infiltration and ceasefire violatons across the Line of Control (LoC). He stopped off in the Afghanistan capital Kabul earlier on Friday.
Without referring directly to Pakistan, Modi said that some had seen “sinister designs in our presence” in Afghanistan.
“It’s a positive augury because there have been a series of meetings in the recent months and this just proves that there is traction”, said Uday Bhaskar, director at the Society for Policy Studies in New Delhi.
Mr Sharif hugged Mr Modi after he landed in the eastern city of Lahore before the two boarded a helicopter to head off for talks. High-level talks were twice called off and violence has flared along the countries’ disputed, heavily militarized border.
“If the decision is not preposterous then it is utterly ridiculous”, Congress leader Manish Tewari said.

Ahead of his address, he and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani jointly inaugurated Afghanistan’s new parliament building which was constructed with Indian assistance of $90 million. “But today, let us at least resolve to help Afghanistan – in the best traditions of good neighbourliness – through more effective transit arrangements”, she said.
