PM Modi terms PSLV-C33 launch as example of ‘Make in India’

Some of the applications provided by IRNSS would be terrestrial, aerial and marine navigation, disaster management, vehicle tracking and fleet management, integration with mobile phones, precise timing, mapping and geodetic data capture, terrestrial navigation aid for hikers and travellers, and visual and voice navigation for drivers.

All preparations are on in full swing for the launch of India’s seventh navigation satellite IRNSS 1G on-board PSLV from the Sathish Dhawan Space Centre Sriharikota.

PM Modi termed the system “Navic”, inviting SAARC nations to “navigate with Indian constellation” of satellites. “The benefits from this new technology will help our people, our fishermen”.

“First and foremost I want to congratulate all ISRO scientists and the entire team. India has launched seven navigation satellites which have been successful”, he said in a televised address.

A regional navigation satellite system with just seven spacecraft and in civil domain is unique to India. “We will determine our own paths powered by our technology with this successful launch. This is a great gift to people from scientists”.

Chennai: India will move closer to having its own navigation satellite system when the seventh and last in the series of the constellation of Regional Navigation Satellite System, IRNSS-1G on board PSLV-C33, will be launched from the spaceport of Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

We used to be dependent on others for navigation, today we have become independent. Even though the satellite system would have been functional with four satellites but a system of seven satellites would make it even more accurate.

With the operationalisation of six satellites, India has demonstrated the system’s targeted position accuracy which is much better than 20 metres over 24 hours of the day. It involves placing three satellites in suitable slots in a geostationary orbit, 35,786km above the Equator, and the remaining four in geosynchronous, elliptical orbits created to keep the satellites within view of ground stations.

In space science our scientists have achieved many accomplishments. The world will know it as Navic says Narendra Modi
