Apart from South African President Jacob Zuma, the Prime Minister said he would also be meeting Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa.
On Thursday, Modi will travel to Pretoria in South Africa, a country he described as an “important strategic partner, with whom our ties are historical and deep-rooted”.
He will leave for South Africa, on Thursday evening. “I will also interact with the Indian community briefly”, he said.
Modi is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi.
India’s relationship with the African continent may be a centuries-old civilisational compact but as Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to reinvigorate that relationship in all its nuances and across the full spectrum of diplomatic ties, the focus must, first and foremost, be on intensifying political engagement.
Other programmes include a meeting with Veronica Macamo, the President of the National Assembly and a visit to the S&T Park, Maluana, where he will interact with students.
Other programmes, he said, include a meeting with the Alumni Network in Durban and a reception hosted by the Mayor of Durban at Durban City Hall.
He will interact with the Indian community as well. “So, basically the Indian traders also rely on ports in these countries whether in Mombasa, Beira or further down in South Africa”.
“A contingent from diverse business sectors will accompany the Prime Minister and participate in the India-Tanzania Business Forum and India-Kenya Business Forum being organised by Ficci and its counterparts on July 10 and 11 at Dar-e-Salaam and Nairobi respectively”, the industry body said in a release here. There is also a meeting with Bharatwallah Alumni Association during the visit. “The Prime Minister will be meeting the diaspora in all the four countries, but both in Johannesburg and Kenya, he will be addressing them in a large format, because the response was so overwhelming that we had over 10,000-15,000 registrations in a day by people who wanted to come to listen to him”.

“A programme that I am keenly looking forward to join is an interaction with students at the Nairobi University”, he said.
