US President Barack Obama called the accord “huge”, and touted US leadership in reaching the agreement.

The Paris climate change deal would be a “major leap for mankind”, French President François Hollande has said.

Sharing his sentiments in a series of tweets the Prime Minister observed that the outcome of Paris Agreement has no winners or losers.

Deliberations at #COP21 #ParisAgreement demonstrates the collective wisdom of world leaders to mitigate #ClimateChange, PM Modi tweeted.

The Prime Minister appreciated the gesture by Hollande because the talks are being held in Paris and the summit has entered into the ultimate stage.

“The draft Paris agreement continues to be weak and unambitious, as it does not include any meaningful targets for developed countries to reduce their emissions”, said Sunita Narain, director general, CSE, in a statement.

“Today is a historic day. What we have adopted is not only an agreement, but we have written a chapter of hope in the lives of 7 billion people”. “Mahatma Gandhiji used to say that ‘we have not inherited earth from our ancestors, but we have it on loan from future generations”, he said.

Developing nations, including India, had insisted rich countries must shoulder the lion’s share of responsibility for tackling climate change as they emitted most of the greenhouse gases since the Industrial Revolution.

He also said that: “The time has come to acknowledge that national interests are best served by acting in the worldwide interest”.

“Today the human race has joined in a common cause, but it’s what happens after this conference that really matters. We’ve done everything to maintain that thrust”, Javadekar said.
