PM Nawaz leaves for NY to attend UNGA session

With Kashmir on top of the agenda, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for the USA on Saturday to attend the 71st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Due to the visit the National Apex Committee session has been postponed.

“In his address to the United Nations on Wednesday, the Prime Minister will emphatically highlight the Kashmir dispute”, Radio Pakistan reported.

Nawaz Sharif said this after meeting the PoK based Hurriyat leaders ahead of his UNGA speech.

He was talking to Hurriyat leaders in Muzaffarabad on Friday.

PM Nawaz will also raise the issue of Indian involvement in Balochistan with the worldwide community.

“Including on core issues such as Jammu & Kashmir, reform of the Security Council, counter-terrorism, human rights, peacekeeping, and a host of development and other matters”, the statement said.

AJK’s President Sardar Masood Khan and Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider were also present.

He further said that Indian forces had inflicted unprecedented atrocities against the innocent people of IHK who are struggling for their just right to self-determination.

Prime Minister NarendraModi will not attend the United Nations meeting. Anticipating a strong statement from Pakistan on Kashmir, Indian media said “a befitting reply” was being prepared by the Indian government for the session.

India took up the Balochistan issue on Wednesday at the UN Human Rights Council for the first time.

He said Pakistan would raise its voice for the resolution of Kashmir dispute at all fora.
