PM’s Praise of Mulayam Short-lived: Congress

The government and the Opposition sparred over an online petition signed by leading industrialists urging that Parliament be allowed to “function, debate and legislate” on proposals such as GST. Unless both Houses pass crucial bills pending in Parliament, they can’t be enacted as law.

The PM’s statement comes ahead of the government move to introduce the crucial GST Bill in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

The Samajwadi Party and other regional parties that rule states like the Trinamool Congress and the Janata Dal United support GST, which will benefit poorer states that consume more and manufacture less.
