Leader of the Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh and grandson of Dalit crusader BR Ambedkar, Prakash Ambedkar on Sunday demanded that Podile and Union ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya be booked for abetment of suicide.

“The BJP made statements which were insulting and hurtful instead of being honest in expression of sympathies”.

He was reacting after the Prime Minister broke his silence, voicing his grief over the suicide of Rohith Vemula of Hyderabad University, an incident which has evoked widespread outrage. Why has no action been taken against Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya?

“PM Modi should tell the country now that how he will take accountability of his senior party colleagues for calling this departed Dalit student an anti-national”. The punishment was meted out to them after a leader of ABVP in the campus complained to BJP-led Union government about a scuffle over a poster and the HRD minister intervened following Dattatreya’s letter. Mother India has lost a son.

“I feel the pain very well”, Modi said while speaking as the chief guest at a convocation ceremony of B R Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

A suffering Radhika, Vemula’s mother, said when Nirbhaya was brutally raped and killed, did anyone question her caste?

Meanwhile, the executive council of the University revoked the suspension of the other four Dalit PhD scholars who had been expelled, along with Rohith Vemula, in December past year.

“So all those involved in the action against the students which led to Vemula’s suicide, should face charges of abetment to suicide”, he demanded while talking to reporters here yesterday.
