The Prime Minister said India and Africa have economic, cultural and political ties but the biggest factor is the education provided by India to the African youth.

Proceedings at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium went on smoothly despite the natural disaster, according to an Indian external affairs ministry official. In India, the summit – which kicked off Monday and is witnessing the participation of all 54 African countries – is already being touted as an “unprecedented” event.

The summit will address the key challenges faced by Africa, which includes food, health and environmental security.

As far as the climate change is concerned, the premier said that India and Africa made huge contribution to this problem.

President Buhari will also hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi and other senior Indian government officials on Wednesday, ahead of the opening of the summit on Thursday. “It is not a sectional effort, but it is an effort that India is rolling out and is putting its best foot forward to engage with all of Africa”, Akbaruddin told ANI here. “We have a shared global vision”, he said.

A business exhibition will be organised at the Summit venue on 27 & 29 October by leading Indian chambers of commerce and industry. “The west coast of India and the east coast of Africa in fact are linked by the sea”.

Swaraj strongly pitched for reforms in the UN Security Council (UNSC), pointing out neither India with almost a sixth of the world ” s population nor Africa, the largest continent in terms of number of countries, were on board. He was confident India-Africa trade will increase.

External Affairs Minister also inaugurated the India Africa Friendship Rose garden at Shantipath. “Noting that India has invested $1.2 billion in more than 100 institutes”, Modi said, adding, “the point which makes me the most happy is that there is this partnership between India and Africa that is human resource development, the capacity building”. India is the fastest growing major economy today.
