Pneumonia diagnosis fuels questions about Clinton’s health
Her campaign said she had felt “overheated” and was taken to her daughter Chelsea’s apartment in the city.

Ms Clinton’s departure from the event was not witnessed by the reporters who travel with her campaign and aides provided no information about why she left or her whereabouts for almost two hours.
US Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has appeared to faint as she prematurely left the 9/11 memorial service in NY. Clinton unexpectedly left Sunday’s 9/11 anniversary ceremony in NY after feeling “ov”.
Merrill had indicated she had returned to her residence in Chappaqua north of New York City sometime after 1 pm, and was not seen publicly the rest of the day.
He told the Times that Clinton was feeling “overheated” during the 9/11 ceremony at Ground Zero, where morning temperatures were in the high 70s with high humidity.
According to The New York Times, video taken at the event appears to show Clinton, 68, having trouble maintaining her balance as two Secret Service agents helped lift her into a van. Clinton’s campaign said the Democratic presidential nominee left the 9/11 anniversary c.
Clinton arrived at the NY ceremony in the morning, wearing dark glasses, having released a statement saying it was important to honour the lives and “tremendous spirit” of the victims and responders of September 11, 2001.
Clinton and her Republican rival Donald Trump had arrived separately at the 9/11 memorial in downtown Manhattan.
The Democratic presidential nominee left a 9/11 memorial on Sunday early, as she was seen being helped into a vehicle, with initial reports saying she felt “overheated”.
During a follow-up evaluation of her prolonged cough, “she was diagnosed with pneumonia”.
The candidate’s team said she was diagnosed with pneumonia on Friday and given antibiotics, but had become dehydrated at the NY event. Late Sunday night, she called off plans to travel to California for two days of fundraising, campaign events and an appearance on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show.
Whereas Clinton and her campaign could laugh off questions about her health before today, the “overheating” episode makes it nearly impossible for them to do so.
She was even jokingly challenged to show she could open a jar of pickle to prove she was in good health.
The incident compounds an already hard stretch for Ms Clinton as the presidential race enters its final stretch. Despite Mr Trump’s numerous missteps, the race remains close and many Americans view Ms Clinton as dishonest and untrustworthy.
Her dismissal of half of Trump’s supporters as a “basket of deplorables” of racist, homophobic people on Friday triggered a firestorm of criticism and prompted her to roll back the comment. She later said she regretted applying that description to “half” of Mr Trump’s backers, but stuck by her assertion that he has given a platform to “hateful views and voices”.
Clinton’s public day began when she arrived at the 9/11 memorial in lower Manhattan.
And Senator Chuck Schumer, a Democrat from NY, said he was standing next to Clinton.
“She seemed fine”, said Rep. Peter King, a Republican from NY.
Clinton may well be totally fine – and I certainly hope she is.
Clinton exited the apartment on her own shortly before noon, wearing sunglasses and carrying a handbag.
“The short term turbulence will be more about the handling of this than the substance, though I’m sure both candidates will be pressed for greater disclosure of health records”, said David Axelrod, a former adviser to President Barack Obama. Temperatures were in the high 70s F in NY, and humidity was also high.
But as she makes her way to the auto, the presidential candidate can be seen to stagger and sway, with helpers desperately trying to keep her upright.
Lisa Bardack, Clinton’s doctor, said: ‘I have just examined her and she is now rehydrated and recovering nicely.
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump also attended the commemoration.
The goal is to keep the public informed about their condition, whereabouts and official interactions at all times.
Trump, who attended the same event marking the 15th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, was noticeably restrained. Asked by a reporter about Clinton’s health incident, the billionaire businessman said: “I don’t know anything”. She also has experienced deep vein thrombosis, a clot usually in the leg, and takes a blood thinner to prevent new clots.
The secrecy surrounding Clinton’s recent health was made all the more notable by doctors who said Sunday that a presidential candidate was an apt candidate for a pneumonia infection, which is commonly treated quickly and effectively with antibiotics.
“Some patients have very little difficulties with activities of daily living and are only mildly hampered by it while others may require hospitalization and have to reduce their activities”, he said, adding that pneumonia was the 8th leading cause of death in the US.
