Pochettino gives Dembele and Dier all-clear, waits on Kane

Harry Kane found the net for the second time in two Premier League games as Tottenham beat Sunderland, but the England global was then stretchered off late on with what looked to be a serious-looking ankle injury.

His contribution proved more decisive against Sunderland which Tottenham was struggling to break down until Kane tapped in the only goal at White Hart Lane in the 59th minute. I’m happy for him, but disappointed with his injury. “We need to wait until tomorrow”.

Aside from losing Kane, there was further injury worry for Spurs as England’s Eric Dier and Belgium’s Mousa Dembele were both substituted in the second half with what appeared to be hamstring injuries.

Mauricio Pochettino believes Tottenham are still recovering from a demanding summer as they look to hit top form in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, the victory sends Tottenham up to third in the table and maintains their unbeaten start, while Sunderland remain without a win in the Premier League this season.

Sunderland came the closest that they would all game on the stroke of half-time, Didier Ndong linking well with Defoe to force the ball across for Steven Pienaar, who watched on in agony as his effort was swept off the line by Kyle Walker.

“It was a good result”, Pochettino said.

He explained before the game: “With Rose’s injury Ben Davies would’ve played three games in a row and that’s always hard, so we need to rotate it”. That is the way we need to play every game.

“The circumstances for all was hard from the summer with the Euros”, said Pochettino referring to Kane and his fellow Spurs and England team-mates Danny Rose, Kyle Walker, Eric Dier and Dele Alli.

Tottenham got back to winning ways after strolling past Sunderland at White Hart Lane.

“We fought a lot and tried to score”. “For the chances we create it’s hard to understand why only 1-0”. When I wanted to come back in, I wanted somewhere that excited me – I’d like to say this was really exciting, but maybe not in the way I hoped! All my decisions are because I think a player can give more things than another player. We were dominating. We felt comfortable and felt we needed to be patient. “But its still early days and it’s the same with us so hopefully we can go there and be disciplined”.
