Pochettino not thinking about title

Harry Kane was on the scoresheet for the fifth successive game for Tottenham as they cruised to victory over rivals West Ham United in the London derby at White Hart lane on Sunday evening.

Lanzini pulled a late goal back, but i proved to be stark consolation for those Hammers fans who hadn’t already headed for the exits.

Spurs will hope it is Tuesday and Wednesday night football – rather than Thursdays – for them next season in Europe and all the current top four, plus Chelsea, will be looking anxiously at them and a resurgent Liverpool.

The records tumble just as a previously resolute, canny West Ham were forced aside.

Of the packed fixture list facing Tottenham, who had to manage three matches in six days a fortnight ago, Pochettino said: “I laugh”. To be fair of course we played a really bad game but they played a really good game and we have to give some credit for this. We have been consistent but to win the title maybe we need more.

“It is early to start talking about that, there is too far until the end of the season”, Pochettino said.

Kane opened their account on twenty-three minutes as Alli’s blocked effort deflected right into the forward’s path. Kane spun around Carl Jenkinson, shrugging the defender off with his strength near the penalty spot, and blasted a volley into the roof of the net. There are a lot of things in his head.

So even if we knew nothing else about Tottenham, we should expect their improvement in preventing chances to be mostly maintained.

Bilic said the extent to which his team had been outplayed had come as a “shock” and he urged his players to shake the game out of their system in time for next week’s clash with West Bromwich Albion. “It’s hard today to see what will happen in five months”.

“I enjoy the atmosphere of these games, especially when we are at home”.

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic apologised to Hammers fans for the defeat – only their second in 10 games.

The Metropolitan Police said the victim was stabbed in the abdomen in an incident around the junction of White Hart Lane and Tottenham High Road.

After the restart, any hope West Ham had of getting a toehold quickly disappeared.

Spurs always look likely winners after going 2-0 up within 33 minutes, with Harry Kane opening the scoring midway through the first half before Toby Alderweireld doubled their advantage just past the half-hour mark.

Subs: Vorm, Mason, Trippier, Townsend, Onomah, Carroll, Davies.
