Pochettino’s Spurs ‘ready to compete’ for title after win over Watford

Spurs sit second in the Premier League after Saturday’s 1-0 home win over Watford – their sixth successive victory in all competitions – and the future looks bright. We had some good chances, me included, but the win was the most important thing. By that I mean they don’t have players who have experienced success in a league of this quality, they’re a young side with a lot of talent but they might lack a player who has ‘been there, done that.’ The sort of player who will keep everyone calm, focused and believing that anything’s possible.

Off the back of a thrilling win against Watford, Tottenham Hotspur have propelled their title challenge – and Mauricio Pochettino’s men are convinced they can go the whole way and win the league.

Even at the start of this season, I felt our only realistic chance of a title was if a multi billionaire bought the club and threw 100s of millions at us and even then, we would have the Citys’ and Chelsea’s to match and better. You did think, ‘How has he got that job?’ But he has been clever in knowing when not to change too much.

The top four play each other next weekend as Tottenham visit the Etihad Stadium while Arsenal host Leicester, and Pochettino believes his side can be confident against Manchester City, whom they beat 4-1 earlier in the season.

Arsenal have finished above Tottenham every season since 1996 and many Gunners fans jokingly like to celebrate “St Totteringham’s Day” – the point in each campaign when it becomes mathematically impossible for Spurs to overtake them.

Tottenham Hotspurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has given Spurs a new lease of life. We’ve got to try to keep that belief high. “It is normal, they are Tottenham and their target is to be at the top, our target is to survive”.

Watford have only scored more than one goal once in their last six matches, and that could continue against the best defence in the league.

“Everyone was saying they need another striker, well you can see Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela also scoring goals and that is a good balance”. His movement in the final third has been a particular highlight in his game, and that will worry Spurs on Saturday, especially with Jan Vertonghen missing at the back.

Tottenham sealed their sixth consecutive win since their defeat to Leicester City with another clean sheet – and are just five points behind first place.

Chasing Leicester City is a north London club, but not quite the one you might expect. Maybe only 1-0 but I think if we analyse the game we played very well. We have Valon Behrami, Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney.
