Pochettino vindicated as Rose blooms for Tottenham

The Premier League appears to have morphed into a two-horse race between Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur after the Spurs got a come-from-behind victory over Swansea City to grab a much-needed three points.

Harry Kane wore a face mask to protect a broken nose against Swansea City on Sunday and Dele Alli injured his foot in the warm-up, but both players finished the match with smiles on their faces as Spurs came from behind to win 2-1.

“It was 21 months ago when we arrived and the first meeting I had with a Tottenham player was with Danny”, the London Evening Standard quotes Pochettino as saying.

With Tottenham having the best defence and equal-best attack, two points shy of the summit of the Premier League with 11 games remaining, this has been a remarkable season that continues to roll on. We have a strong squad and we will try to manage it in the right way.

Spurs had 34 shots, 14 of them on target, against Swansea and the relief was palpable when Chadli finally turned home Kyle Walker’s shot across goal with 20 minutes left.

After coping with some early pressure, Swansea took one of two chances they had in the first half, as a shot deflected kindly into Paloschi’s path to fire him past Lloris.

Swansea are just sitting above the relegation zone and they will want a win or two to give themselves some breathing space.Andre Ayew, Gomis and former Tottenham player Sigurddson will be the key men for Swansea.

The duo shared the spoils last time they met back in October – Spurs fought back from 2-0 down to claim a 2-2 draw, in a game which saw leading scorer Harry Kane put through his own net. I always explain that we need to be game by game and keep working hard.

Spurs thought they had scored again as Kane crossed for Walker, who finished off a quick break, but the goal was rightly disallowed for offside – and Spurs survived a scare as Lloris made another key save from a Paloschi volley.

Ander Herrera’s victor for Manchester United against Arsenal at Old Trafford has given Spurs a crucial three-point cushion against their hated rivals.

Consistency has rarely been associated with Spurs over the decades, and it has all but eluded the majority of teams in this somewhat weird season. “He had to make some saves, but some of them were really world class”.

The scorer of the winning goal, Danny Rose, was also hugely complimentary of Fabianski’s display. “But I have to congratulate our players because of the energy we showed and the way we kept trying was fantastic”. “Every time when we relax, even for a few seconds, we lose points, so we have to go step by step”, warned Branislav Ivanovic, who scored Chelsea’s late victor at Southampton on Saturday.
