I feel this. I spoke with him a few times and he gave me energy and positivity.

The pair were both part of United’s youth set-up at Old Trafford before Pogba ended up leaving the club to move to the Serie A outfit four summers ago.

With Mourinho having secured his four top transfer targets – Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Eric Bailly, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and now Pogba – United are firmly reestablished as genuine title contenders.

Pogba had signed for United on a three-year deal with a one-year renewal option which then United manager Alex Ferguson was keen to activate but the 18-year-old was frustrated by a lack of first-team opportunities at the club and chose to leave.

“When I heard some of the comments and heard some of the managers criticising that, I don’t think they ever have this problem because, to have this problem, you need to be at one of the top clubs in the world. I didn’t finish what I started here so I think I came here to finish it”.

“My mum told me I would come back here and I told her, ‘You never know, you’ll see, ‘” he said.

“They work hard to be in the match and they aren’t, and this is going to happen in the next two or three weeks because we have just one Premier League match”. The fact that the fee has broken the world record has reassured United followers, and the wider football world, that the Red Devils are still a global footballing superpower.

Pogba is likely to make his debut in Manchester United’s opening English Premier League game against Bournemouth on August 14. “He is a great footballer and when you are Madrid you always want the best”, Real coach Zinedine Zidane had said before United wrapped up the deal for a player who scored 34 goals in 178 games for Juventus.

Manchester United’s fall from grace since the days of Sir Alex Ferguson has been unceremonious to say the least, and fans have grown frustrated by their team that has flattered to deceive on the league table and starved them of the attacking football that gets bums off the Old Trafford seats.

That was the last straw for a player who was desperate for a chance to impress his manager. This is the right club for me to achieve everything I hope to in the game, ‘ Pogba stated after finalising his world record deal.

According to Robson, Pogba will play ahead rather than a deep midfielder at United.

The 23-year-old said conversations with worldwide colleague Raphael Varane and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata – who was on loan at Juventus last season – left him in no doubt Mourinho is the right man to help his career flourish.
