Pokémon Go, Going Global as Game Launches in More Countries

Niantic, the company that at one time was owned by Google, that is behind this game, announced on Friday that it intends to expand its app to more than 200 countries across the globe at a pace it called “relatively soon”.

And yet, we all know that this isn’t a barrier for those who want to play the game on the iPhone because many users created US accounts for the App Store in order to download Pokemon Go legitimately and without waiting for Nintendo to launch it in their countries.

What’s telling about Pokemon Go’s global success is that the game is only officially available in Australia, New Zealand, US, and recently, United Kingdom and Germany.

The explosion of interest had put a big strain on the servers for the game, with many users experiencing intermitted issues.

It has more daily users than even Twitter. The question now is, “how long will the Pokemon GO trend last?” This is compared to the peak U.S. audience users for King’s “Candy Crush” by a million.

Separately security researchers at security software firm ESET warn that the first ever fake lockscreen app on the Google Play Android Store and two scareware apps all posed as Pokemon Go-related apps.

The next step for developer Niantic Labs may be to go into advertising. This suggests paid for locations to open up a new revenue channel apart from the current in-app purchases.

Created by programmer Sun Xiaoyu, City Spirit Go also challenges users to seek and catch the fantastical creatures and fight them, although instead of using a mobile phone camera to integrate the videogame in images taken from reality, as in Pokemon Go, it uses a virtual map, EFE news reported.
