The game was downloaded in more than five percent of Android phones in the first two days of release and had outpaced the dating app Tinder.

On its support page, Google warns that any app that is given “full account access” enables developers to “see and modify almost all the information in your Google account”.

That said, all is not lost – and you won’t be prevented from being “the very best, like no one ever was”, if you don’t fancy sharing your info. Or in other instances, the server lock players out of their accounts or a bug in the game itself would appear.

It has been less than a week since Pokemon Go hit iOS and Android in the USA and other markets, but it has already proved to be the shot in the arm Nintendo was looking for.

Pokemon have even infested the houses of people who don’t play the game. In St. Louis, four men used the app to lure players to places where they could rob them.

So there you have it. It will soon be OK to use Pokemon GO again, though Niantic doesn’t exactly say when.

Nintendo has a stake in the Pokemon Company joint venture that holds the Pokemon copyright. “That’s why an engaging game like Pokémon Go can be helpful”.
