Pokémon GO: Niantic, Nintendo, And The Pokémon Company Face Lawsuit Over Trespassing

If you haven’t heard yet, it’s been a turbulent few days for Niantic Labs, developer of the wildly popular Pokemon GO. The cause of all this backlash began with a recent update that not only fixed a few bugs, but also removed the game’s Pokemon tracker mechanic.

Many of those sites are either on or adjacent to private property, according to Marder’s lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Oakland, California, near the San Francisco headquarters of Niantic.

Now that settlement money could be involved, the world might just find out the true level of annoying Pokemon Go has reached.

J.C. Smith, The Pokemon Company’s consumer marketing director, told The Associated Press last week that the company is updating the augmented-reality game so it remains fun for players but respects the real world.

Niantic says the 3-Step display was removed in order to improve upon it.

“The original feature, although enjoyed by many, was also confusing and did not meet company’s underlying product goals”, they stated, adding that they would keep users posted as they strive to improve this aspect. We’ll have to hang tight for the solution to tracking, but in the meantime, at least the rest of the game works as intended. But we’ll do our best going forward to keep you posted on what’s going on. “Thanks to the help of several of our Trainers, we were able to locate them and bring them home safely”.
