Following the massive success of Pokemon Go, Nintendo have promised four more smartphone games until the end of next March. While many other countries still did not officially have the game, that didn’t keep users from playing it. However, Pokemon Go launched in Germany today, beginning its European rollout.

Currently, the game is freely available for download on the App Store and on Google Play but offers in-app purchases for additional items and power-ups. Niantic Labs is responsible for the development of its first augmented reality game “Ingress”, which is the basis of much of “Pokemon GO” and its mechanics. Meanwhile, US-based web-based survey solutions company SurveyMonkey tracked Pokémon Go’s peak daily active users and said that Pokemon Go has claimed the title of “biggest mobile game in the US history”, leaving behind other popular mobile games, including Candy Crush, Clash Royale and Minecraft.
Ride sharing to help players catch Pokemon is only one new phenomenon developing after the release of the Nintendo game.
Proofpoint recently discovered an infected version of Pokemon Go that has the ability to give hackers access to a user’s phone. Despite region-locking setbacks like this, the game has been a massive hit worldwide, earning Niantic over $14,000,000 before the game has even hit every region.
“People born in the 1980s and 90s, they grew up with this”. It became the top free app for iOS and Android in nearly no time – and that’s just in the US, Australia and New Zealand.
