‘Pokemon Go’ Beta Testing Includes The US, Release Date Imminent!

After opening signups to users earlier this month, beta testers will be chosen and allowed into the program today to begin roaming the world capturing Pokemon, battling other trainers, and making those who weren’t chosen for the field test feel bad. “Players can purchase PokeCoins, the in-game currency of Pokemon GO”. Players use their captured Pokemon to battle with other Pokemon assigned to other’s gyms, and have the chance to claim it for their own once the gym’s prestige level reaches zero.

Up until this point, the majority of information and/or screenshots we’ve received from the highly anticipated and much speculated release of Pokemon GO has relied exclusively on the courageous few beta testers and field “operatives” who have covertly leaked some of the game’s footage under the nose of game developer, Niantic. For the past few weeks, there has been a bit of a closed beta/field test going on over in Australia and a couple other locations.

US fans of the upcoming “Pokemon Go” are in for a treat. When you’re out in the world, your phone will buzz when a Pokemon is nearby. Players use Poke Balls to catch Pokemon; players will throw them at Pokemon, and hope it stays shut. These are located in the real world at places like “public art installations, historical markers, and monuments”, though a list of specific destinations was not provided. During Gym battles, defeating the Pokemon which defend that Gym will reduce its “prestige” level and eventually allow attacking players to gain control. The new details focus partially on battle mechanics as battling other players and Pokemon will be an essential part of the game as it is in other Pokemon content.

ABOVE: New game renderings from Pokemon GO. However, Niantic warns that signing up in the site does not automatically guarantee that you could participate in the actual testing.

The official date of the game release has not been revealed by the game developers and its partner, The Pokemon Company.
