Pokemon Go is an augmented reality game where you travel around your city, country or even the world searching for wild Pokemon to catch, level up and then use to fight.

Shares in Nintendo have surged 77 per cent to a six-year high in just over a week on the game’s success, adding US$15 billion (RM60 billion) in market value.

Shares surpassed a near-35% rise in August 1989 when the Japanese company launched Dragon Quest, a fantasy role-playing game, in the US.

And yet, we all know that this isn’t a barrier for those who want to play the game on the iPhone because many users created US accounts for the App Store in order to download Pokemon Go legitimately and without waiting for Nintendo to launch it in their countries. Eager fans have resorted to sideloading the game on Android or creating an iTunes account for the aforementioned countries to play the game on iOS.

The game relies on Google services such as Maps.

The game that is evoking love for Pokemon all over again is said to have earned millions of dollars in its launch week itself.

Other government ministries did not respond to faxed questions about the game.

“I really looked forward to playing the Pokemon artificial reality game since they first announced it. I really liked Pokemon as a kid”, said Gan Tian, a 22-year-old student at Tsinghua University.

The stand-alone APK file was the easiest way to install Pokemon Go on an Android device in a country where the game wasn’t yet launched, and for some reason, Nintendo has chose to no longer allow users to turn to this method to play the game.

For some weird reason, Pokemon Go is not officially released in Canada yet.

Niantic, the lab that developed the game, declined to comment on Friday on an eventual launch.

The uncertainty is likely the result of Pokemon GO not actually being an official Nintendo title, but it has invested in developer Niantic and also owns a third of Pokemon publisher Pokemon Company.
