Pokemon Go: Pikachu #Pokemonument appears overnight in New Orleans park
Thanks to Pokemon GO’s release, areas that were once forgotten have become places of gathering – specifically parks. The creatures are hitting the real world surprisingly hard, and just recently, one fan made a decision to honor the franchise by erecting a not-so-legal Pikachu statue in a New Orleans park. While most of the monuments in question pay tribute to a bygone era, a brand new Lower Garden District statue is honoring something decidedly more contemporary-Pikachu. As for the Pikachu statue itself, the adorable starter can be seen pulling a pouchy face with its arms crossed over its chest. The city has not commented on the new addition to the neighborhood, but it doesn’t appear it was city-funded. Considering how quickly the new game has taken the world by storm, the illegally-erected statue actually seems like a logical next step for the craze.

At some point, likely in the dead of night, the fiberglass statue was erected on top of a defunct fountain in the middle of the park.

The statue appears to cover up where an old fountain used to be.
