‘Pokemon Go’ player shot, killed near San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf
Riley was killed by an “unknown assailant” while playing the mobile game with his friend near Ghiradelli Square, a popular San Francisco tourist attraction, on Saturday night, the AP reported. Authorities say Calvin Riley of San Mateo was shot at the bustling Aquatic Park in the Fisherman’s Wharf area, frequented by thousands of visitors each day, just before 10pm.

Riley was a “hard worker, great teammate and unbelievable person”, said Reed Peters, coach of the San Joaquin Delta College Mustangs in Stockton, where Riley played his freshman year as the baseball team’s closing pitcher and was studying kinesiology.
A GoFundMe was set up by his cousin for his family.
It’s unclear whether the attack had anything to do with “Pokemon Go“, which has become a national sensation this summer as legions of fans visit real-world landmarks in order to find and trap cartoon creatures.
According to ABC7, Riley and his family moved to the San Francisco Bay Area for a better and safer life. Robert Jansing, a U.S. Park Police investigator, commented that it “made no sense”, according to SF Gate. Riley got ahead and went around a corner, and when his friend rounded the corner he heard a gunshot and saw Riley fall. The family says a memorial for Riley will be held on Thursday, August 11, with the viewing beginning at 6 p.m. and a vigil starting at 7 p.m.
“For no reason, he was just shot for no reason”. “Calvin was the kindest, happiest, and most lovable kid I had ever met”. It is also not known if the game had anything to do with Riley’s shooting.
“You left me for California a couple years back”.

“You had all the mechanics, talent and dedication to make your dreams a reality. But all that was taken by a coward who wanted to shoot up a Poké stop”, he wrote.
