Pokemon Go has finally launched in the United Kingdom, following a rollout to Germany earlier this week.
Pokemon GO, Nintendo’s new augmented-reality game, has captured the global attention by storm as top brands across the world are contemplating the idea of featuring sponsored locations to promote their products and services.
“With Pokemon GO, you are seeing it as bypassing a lot of digital (marketing) channels that the brick and mortar shops have been relying on for the past few years”.
In just a couple of days after its release in the United States, it was claimed that more than five per cent of Android phone owners there had downloaded it. Sullivan adds that collecting email, IP address, username and location is a common practice and is typical of most apps.
Apps on Google Play Store are often released within days or weeks after debuting in US.
“Pokemon Go” is a joint venture of the Pokemon Company, which is 40%-owned by Nintendo (NTDOY), and Niantic, a spinout from Alphabet (GOOGL). Not only is the game not on Chinese app stores, but Google services are blocked in China.
As the craze spread, so did the various pirated copies, which have been downloaded millions of times already. VIDEO: What’s the hype over Pokemon Go?
