The celebration of Pokemon continues with today’s announcement: Pokken Tournament is coming in March to North America.
Pokken Tournament, a Pokemon fighting game from the creators of Tekken, finally has a release date, and it’s a lot closer than you might think.
Along with Volcanion’s potential appearance in the forthcoming “Pokemon” film, “Pokemon Z” is rumored to include Dark Mewtwo while “Pokemon GO” could feature event gifts like shiny legendary Pokemon. Ranging from news of the re-releases of the original Pokemon Red, Blue, and Yellow games on the Nintendo 3DS to a brand new New 3DS bundle featuring the aforementioned classics and two special faceplates for the hardware, there’s plenty for fans to look forward to in the months ahead. Obviously, those predictions didn’t pan out, but there’s still plenty of room for those and more to join the game – the roster is only sitting at 16 fighters, after all. However, when engaged up close to an opponent, the 3D fighting turns into a 2D fighter (graphically, it stays the same but the plane changes) and it’s closer to the likes of Street Fighter or Killer Instinct, where fast combos, counter-attacks and quick reflexes become the order of the day. This means that it’s not just about how a Pokemon is played at a distance, but how well they can play up close as well (or whether or not a player will even allow them to get close). I personally can not wait for the arguments about whether or not it really is a fighter. There are Friendly Matches, and Ranked for those who would like to compete. One player uses the Gamepad, viewing the game from the built-in screen, and the other player uses a controller and the TV screen.

Also pointed out in a report from IGN is that none of the three additions refers to the mysterious Pokemon that is set to be revealed soon via the game’s official Twitter page.
