And tonight was one of those for me.

An All-Star with San Francisco in 2011, Vogelsong was greeted with an extended ovation when he took the mound in the first inning, and a video montage of his time with the Giants played on the scoreboard as he warmed. He admitted afterward he was pretty spent at the point he departed, and was still emotionally choked up afterward. Taillon, who never has faced San Francisco, is 2-2 with a 2.63 ERA in four road starts.Samardzija is coming off a rare strong performance as he scattered three hits over 5 2/3 scoreless innings in a victory at Miami.

And then going out for the first inning, not expecting a standing O and get one. but then again, I don t expect anything less from these fans. “They’re first class and they always have been”. It was hard to stay locked in and be appreciative at the same time.

OUR PICK: The Giants are just 2-5 in Samardzija’s last seven starts versus a team with a winning record, are 1-4 in his last five starts overall, and are 1-4 in his last five starts when he pitches the second game of a series.

“I’m really exhausted mentally, ” Vogelsong said. I felt like I had to, and I appreciate every person who stood up and clapped for me tonight. Two hits and a walk loaded the bases with two outs and a walk of Joe Panik brought a first run across.

Meanwhile, things were going along swimmingly for Moore.

With Moore having departed after six innings, Pittsburgh subsequently padded the lead with two more runs in the top of the seventh.

But it all began to unravel in the fourth.

The left-handed Moore (0-2) allowed five runs over six innings and is still seeking his first victory since being acquired prior to the August 1 trade deadline from Tampa Bay.

Hunter Pence #8 of the San Francisco Giants hits an rbi single scoring Brandon Belt #9 against the Pittsburgh Pirates in the bottom of the third inning at AT&T Park on August 15, 2016 in San Francisco, California.

Denard Span had three hits, including a home run, and Eduardo Nunez also homered for the Giants. He walked three and struck out one. That was pretty special.

The Giants managed to give up five walks in their last game.

San Francisco missed a chance to add on when Pence overran third base on Nunez’s double and was thrown out while scrambling back to the bag.

Center fielder Andrew McCutchen saved two runs with a diving catch and the Pittsburgh outfield threw out two Giants baserunners, helping Vogelsong win on a night when he was roughed up for four runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. That s why he s one of the best in baseball. He made the catch while lying on his back.

Buster Posey sat out a second straight game with back stiffness. Bochy said Posey is day to day. The night was full of ovations and emotion, but ultimately for the Giants, it was yet another loss.
