The Pittsburgh Pirates will not go down without a fight in the National League wild-card race. But their post-season aspirations could hinge on medical examinations off the field over the coming days.

The Pittsburgh Pirates look to stay red hot and build on their win yesterday as they continue their weekend set on Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Pirates actually came into the series having lost their last nine at Miller Park, but turned things around thanks in large part to their quality pitching. “I don’t think you could ask for much more here at the end of August”.

Padres 3, Marlins 1 • Rookie and former Cardinals prospect Luis Perdomo benefited from a team-record six double plays in his first complete game as San Diego won in Miami. “It should be fun”.

“I was trying not to think about it”, Nova said of the injury. “It was my first time experiencing something like that”. Pittsburgh RHP Gerrit Cole will not make his scheduled start Monday against the Chicago Cubs and instead will see a specialist about a sore elbow.2.

Chase Anderson tossed five innings of shutout ball, then surrendered solo home runs in the sixth to John Jaso and Gregory Polanco.

A third solo home run concluded the Pirates scoring as Starling Marte blasted his eighth homer off Carlos Torres. He gave up one earned run on a solo homerun by Jonathan Villar in the bottom of the third, which gave the Brewers an early 1-0 lead. Hurdle got left-hander Antonio Bastardo up in the bullpen and called for Matt Joyce to pinch hit. Tony Watson pitched the ninth for his 10th save. When healthy, he is one of the most unsafe players in the lineup.

“We were very pleased with [Nova’s] effort, man”, Hurdle said.

“[Nelson] will have two extra days rest with that start, basically”, Counsell said.

Anderson dodged a major jam in the fourth when, after the Pirates loaded the bases with a pair of singles sandwiched around a walk, he struck out David Freese and got Francisco Cervelli to ground out.

“The command was there for me today for the most part, just got away from me in the sixth inning”, Anderson said.

Brewers: Brewers RHP Junior Guerra (right elbow) is expected to return to the rotation at some point after Thursday’s day off. He threw 3 1-3 scoreless innings in his previous rehab start at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Pirates acquired Nova from the New York Yankees last month for two players to be named later.
