Police Arrest 12-Year-Old in Shooting Plot

Police arrested Malik Bridgewater, 20, and three other suspects on theft and burglary charges after eight handguns were stolen from a pawn shop.

Police said they worked with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to to identify the boy. But authorities said one of his accomplices told investigators they stole firearms to shoot police officers.

“We took this as a very viable threat”, Dabadie said at a press conference about the pawn shop robbery last week.

Officials say police went to the convenience store after an anonymous caller said they had been threatened by someone with a gun.

The Rev. Jesse Jackson, Jr. led a call and response with mourners: “Stop the violence, save the children”. The 43-year-old was put in a chokehold, where he was held until he suffocated. “It’s sad to know we’re going to have an empty place in front of the store”.

Protesters were mostly absent from the two sites where Alton Sterling-related protests spring up.

He said there was no substitute for justice.

Carl Slaughter, a Baton Rouge resident who has run a community center for 35 years, remembered Sterling as a teenager who spent many hours there after the death of his parents.

“If you want to protest please leave now”, he told the crowd, which included two senior advisers to President Barack Obama. The former Army Reserve Afghan War vet also openly held disdain for white people, and wished to end their lives as well.

The services for Alton Sterling got underway Friday with a gospel choir singing hymns, as many in the crowd of a couple thousand joined in.

In a funeral that was part home-going celebration and part political declaration, Sterling’s family and a slew of speakers said sweet, sorrowful goodbyes while calling for justice. One of the suspects said they did so to harm officers while another said he did it to sell the guns.

Sterling was fatally shot last week during a confrontation with police officers outside a convenience store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Mr Sterling’s death was captured on mobile phone video and circulated widely on the internet.

Police said he had a gun.

He said he sympathized with police but even so, he thinks Sterling’s killing was unjust, based on video footage of the incident he watched on television.
