Police arrest Rawalpindi ‘women attacker’

An alleged knife attacker and his two accomplices targeting women in Rawalpindi were arrested by police and other law enforcement agencies.

The suspect, who is allegedly the one who stabbed women who ventured outside their homes after dark in a locality in Rawalpindi, is a resident of a suburban town by the name of Kahuta.

Earlier on Thursday, police said the alleged killer was a dropout of a religious seminary, and committed the crime due to a suspected mental disorder.

Muhammad Ali allegedly attacked working women over a period of about two months at night during loadshedding hours, sources said.

Police sources said that the five men will be presented before a court to get their physical remand to investigate the matter. Last year, in Sahiwal a three-member stabbing group annoyed women in the city.

The arrest came after Irum, a nurse and one of his victims, stepped forward and provided details of his appearance to the police enabling them to reach out to the locals for his identification.

According to reports, around 40 women have sustained injuries in various incidents of knife attacks in the area.
