The flight, operated by Compass Airlines, departed at 7:18 a.m. CDT from Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, according to the website Flightaware.

Passengers were escorted from an American Airlines twin-engine regional jet more than an hour after it landed without incident.

An airport police spokesman the US Transport Security Administration had received a phone call about a threat to the flight but did not release further details. SWAT officers went inside to search the plane about 9:35 a.m., Sky 5 footage showed.

The FBI is working with airport police to investigate the threat, spokeswoman Laura Eimiller said. American spokeswoman Polly Tracey says the airline hopes to have all passengers on their way shortly.

Police and fire officials helped deplane passengers and search the aircraft.
