“As he gets up, he gets up from that position to a straight run at the police officer”, said Williams.

When the woman began removing luggage from the vehicle, Diamond took a traffic cone and broke one of the car’s windows, then picked up large landscaping rocks and broke out more auto windows.

Though many said they had arrived early not knowing what awaited them at the airport after the incident.

Asked why the officer fired so many rounds at a man holding a rock, Blankenbaker said only that he did not know how many shots were fired.

Silent surveillance video showed a police officer intervening and aiming his handgun at Diamond when he began advancing menacingly with a rock in each hand.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Shawn Nicholas Diamond, of Edgewood, Maryland, was transported to Parkland Hospital where he remained in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

As of Friday afternoon, Love Field had the second-largest number of flights delayed of any USA airport after Los Angeles International, at 50 or 14 percent of its departures, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.com. When Diamond darted around the officer, the officer shot him and ordered him to stay down.

” The airport chose to pull everyone back out of the safe and secure area and reconsider them for security purposes”, he said.

Nine apparent gun shots are heard in the background of the video.

Video posted by Instagram user @flashyfilms and credited to Bryan Armstrong shows people scattering outside a baggage claim door as an officer in a yellow vest trains a gun toward a baggage claim entrance.

Numerous local news outlets are hearing reports that the baggage claim area was evacuated and all TSA security lines at the airport have stopped.

You can hear a woman crying in the background, as someone screams, “Get down!”
