Police block area of San Francisco amid reports of armed man

San Francisco’s Civic Center and United Nation’s Plazas has been evacuated after reports of a gunman.

All motorists and pedestrians have been forced to leave the area.

The suspect is an adult male, who was photographed holding what appears to be a weapon.

There were no immediate reports of any violence, deaths or injuries. Officials are asking people to avoid the area.

Fire officials first reported the incident at about 12.25pm on Twitter, KGO says.

The standoff caused traffic to back up in the area around City Hall.

More than 100 police had surrounded the area, according to witnesses.
