A 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted near DePaul’s Lincoln Park campus last night while returning to her apartment in the 900 block of W. Belden Ave.
The man fled when she screamed.
Valverde, of the 5100 block of North Sheridan, was also charged with felony resisting/obstructing a peace officer after he tried to run over an officer as he was being arrested, according to police.
DePaul spokeswoman Carol Hughes confirmed the victim is a student, and said the young woman called police after the attack.
The officer was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released, according to the statement.

In the two attacks on August 9 and August 20, the women were at the entryway of their respective residences. “I think I’m strong enough”, Raig said. “This is an example of what can happen when we do the right things, when we communicate, we investigate and we put resources to what we care about which is the safety of our people”, said Julie Smolyansky, of Test400K.org, which pushes for police departments to rest rape kits. “Thank God, especially being a girl and seeing he was targeting girls”, said student Alyssa Kuciunas. He’s due in bond court today.
