Police cite more than 50 pro-Sanders demonstrators after march outside DNC

Christopher Fury, however, a Sanders delegate from Roanoke, Virginia, said outside the reception that he doesn’t trust Clinton to actually follow through on the non-binding party platform. “This is democracy at its best”, said delegate Wendy Greuel, the former Los Angeles city controller and a Clinton supporter. “We have got to elect Hillary Clinton and (running mate) Tim Kaine”, Sanders told a gathering of his supporters hours before the opening of the four-day convention.

Sanders was expected to make similar remarks in Monday night’s speech.

Outside Philadelphia City Hall, a number of supporters of Mr Sanders said they were refusing to concede that their candidate had lost.

“I’m very excited about contrasting our vision and values with what we saw from Donald Trump and the Republicans”, Clinton told supporters packed into a theater in Charlotte.

Members of the crowd screamed back: “So is Hillary”.

“She stole the election!” someone else shouted.

UPDATE 8 a.m.: Capital Public Radio’s Ben Bradford reports from Philadelphia’s Democratic National Convention Monday morning.

– The Bernie supporters have come to Philly and brought the protests.

On Monday, Sanders brought the loudest cheers when he noted that Wasserman Schultz, a USA senator from Florida, had resigned as the Democratic National Committee chairman over the email controversy.

“Her resignation opens up the possibility of new leadership at the top of the Democratic Party”, he said. He had an anti-Hillary Clinton sign portraying her as beholden to Wall Street.

Meanwhile, Republican delegates are resting a little easier after their, at times, tumultuous national convention appears to have given the divisive Donald Trump a bump.

The protests were larger and more unified than any last week at the Republican convention. Others held “Bernie or Bust” signs.

Bradford says Bernie Sanders supporters continue to express their dissatisfaction with their party’s nomination process. When Sanders endorsed Clinton last month, Ludovise changed her voter registration to independent.

The Clinton camp questioned whether Russians may have had a hand in the hack attack on the party’s emails in an effort to help Trump, who has exchanged words of praise with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Clinton campaign officials blamed the hack, which is now being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, on Russian military intelligence agencies.

Missouri delegate Amanda Kelley of St. Charles is sharing her thoughts from the floor of the Democratic National Convention this week.

“Wow, the Republican Convention went so smoothly compared to the Dems total mess”, he wrote on Twitter.

Chung said that bump was still there after a week of plagiarism allegations and an endorsement snub from primary runner up, Ted Cruz.

A CNN/ORC opinion poll gave Trump a 48 percent to 45 percent lead over Clinton in a two-way presidential contest. The survey was conducted July 22-24 and had a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.

For months, Sanders, 74, a U.S. senator from Vermont, mounted an unexpectedly tough challenge to Clinton, 68, a former secretary of state, who this week will become the first woman nominated for president by a major USA political party.

Sanders was among those due to speak on the first evening of the convention.
