Wix was in the squad auto with the air conditioner running, but the AC failed… and so did the temperature alarm system that is supposed to warn the officer his dog could be in danger.

Wix joined the Brown County Sheriff’s office last April, Fox 6 reported.
A Brown County sheriff’s K-9 died Wednesday while on special assignment at the PGA Championship in Kohler, according to a release. Lemberger checked the dog throughout the morning, officials say.
There are regular policies and procedures in place for making sure the K9 equipment including the squad vehicle are in proper working order.
A police dog died after being dispatched to patrol the grounds of the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Wisconsin on Wednesday, the Green Bay Press Gazette reported.
“Deputy Lemberger’s squad vehicle is equipped with K-9 heat alarm which did not activate when the air conditioning unit failed”.
Brown County insures the dogs, Sandberg said.
Officials confirmed Wix, a cop dog trained in explosive detection, passed away inside an air-conditioned K-9 squad cruiser after being left unattended. The Brown County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation into this incident.

“Wix was a valuable member of this agency and community and will be sadly missed by all”, the statement said. Wix’s partner Deputy Lemberger eventually found him unresponsive.
