The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said experts will determine whether the alligator will be euthanized or relocated to a more suitable habitat.

The department said the alligator was caught along Griffin Road and Bonaventure Boulevard in close proximity to a school.

Cypress Bay High School and Falcon Cove Middle School are both located next to the point of capture, but students were in no apparent danger.

“That’s just insane, man, to see an alligator that big around an area that can be where little kids are”, said resident Hernando Sierra.

Dealing with alligators is nothing new for police officers in Davie, Florida, but Wednesday’s capture marks their biggest catch yet, CBS Miami station WFOR-TV reports.

Police said the gator was considered a nuisance because people had been feeding it for some time.
