The suspects involved in the mass shooting that killed 14 people at a holiday party in a California community center have been identified, local media reported Thursday.

The brother-in-law of one of the gunmen in the mass shooting in California says he’s shocked.

Loma Linda University Medical Center is expecting an unknown number of patients from the shooting, spokeswoman Briana Pastorino said.

Police and federal agents for a second day searched a home in neighboring Redlands, about 7 miles from the massacre at the Inland Regional Center.

The nightmare began around 11 a.m. (2 p.m. ET) at the Inland Regional Center, a facility for developmentally disabled people in San Bernardino.

Khan says other family members expressed their sadness over the shootings. “She said “I just want to tell you that I love you” and then she said she had to go and she hung up”, said Stephanie Baldwin, the victim’s sister.

He said that Farook had an older brother, who had served in the USA military. “I have absolutely no idea”. Why would he do something like this?

Another individual, who may be a third suspect, was detained by police after being caught running from the scene of the shoot-out.

Images of a black SUV, riddled with bullet holes and surrounded by police, were screened by CNN. “These were people who came prepared”, Burguan said, adding that the attackers were believed to have used “long guns”, not hand guns. “Obviously, at minimum, we have a domestic-type terrorist-type situation that occurred here”.

Farook and Malik were found with assault rifles and semi-automatic handguns, and were wearing “assault-style clothing” with ammunition attached, authorities said. He says it’s possible it was workplace-related or that there were mixed motives.

One police officer suffered light injury during the action.

The gun attack on the centre is the worst mass shooting since the killings of 20 schoolchildren and six staff at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut in December 2012.

There has been an uptick in gun violence in the United States, with a polarizing debate between those advocating stronger controls on firearms, and staunch gun-rights advocates who argue that the right to bear firearms is enshrined in the U.S. constitution.
