Police in Norfolk rated as ‘outstanding’
Referring to the call for improvement in investigating crime and managing offenders, Assistant Chief Constable Richard Debick said: “Since the inspection changes have been made to the way we work both internally and with partners to address these concerns and I am confident that we are now delivering more effectively in both these areas”.

It’s been praised for its work in keeping people safe and tackling anti-social behaviour as well as scoring highly in investigating crime and managing offenders and protecting the vulnerable and supporting victims.
“I am very pleased that the force has a strong focus on providing a good service to victims through an established commitment to neighbourhood policing”.
But Mr Hardwick says he is very clear that Lincolnshire Police needs to do more to robustly investigate crimes, then apprehend and bring to justice those who commit crime.
The Constabulary’s work with the vulnerable was also highlighted with HMIC saying that Lancashire was in an advanced state of readiness to combat online child sexual exploitation and domestic abuse providers paying compliments to the support provided to victims by special units within the force.
He said: “Every day, the rape of a child is reported to Essex Police”.
Police across South Tyneside are doing a “good” job in tackling crime and keeping people safe.
Deputy Chief Constable Andy Cooke welcomed the findings and revealed the force was set to pump resources into clearing a backlog of mobile phone and laptops examinations – one of only a few areas listed for potential improvement.
An overall judgement of “requires improvement” was the conclusion of Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary following their latest inspection of forces across England and Wales into policing effectiveness.
“I shall be particularly concerned to ensure that the force thinks more carefully about how it protects from harm those who are vulnerable andthose who become victims of crime”.
But the Humberside force was rated as good for how effective it is at tackling serious and organised crime, including its arrangements for fulfilling its national policing responsibilities.
The Constabulary’s approach to Neighbourhood Policing, its Early Action approach to problem solving and the value it places on joint working with other agencies were all singled out for praise in the report. Staffordshire Police could further enhance its understanding of the threat from serious and organised crime.
“However I acknowledge we need to improve the consistency of our approach in those areas”, she said.
“Our officers and staff work hard to prevent crime, detect crime and keep people safe, and we have strong links with our partners”.
North Yorkshire Police was judged as “good” overall – but still must improve its protection of vulnerable people and support of victims.
Sir Clive said he was delighted that HMIC had recognised Leicestershire’s capability to respond to national threats, such as terrorism, serious cyber-crime incidents and child sexual abuse.

“Chief Constable Edens has still only been in position for just short of seven months but I believe given time he will turn the force around and improve Northamptonshire Police’s rating across all manner of key performance indicators”.
