Police in West Texas town of Alpine search for ‘shooter’
The Alpine Avalanche has reported via their Facebook page that approximately one hour after the news of an active shooting broke, 1 student was shot and 1 student “took own life”.

Elizabeth Carter, a lieutenant at the Texas Department of Public Safety, said someone brought a gun onto the campus this morning. Eldred says police were seeking an “active shooter”.
Schools nearby remained on lockdown.
One person is dead after a shooting at Alpine High School in western Texas, the Brewster County Sheriff’s office said Thursday. One has been transported to Big Bend Regional Hospital and the second has been transported to an undisclosed hospital.
Alpine High School, which has about 280 students, is now on lockdown and pupils were evacuated to a nearby church. At least one person had been wounded, according to CNN, but the Houston Chronicle reported no confirmed injuries.

The Alpine Independent School District website says the town of about 5,900 residents has three schools – elementary, middle and a high school.
