Police investigate robbery that prompted evacuation of mall

Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi remains empty of shoppers tonight as police continue their investigation into a robbery that initially was mistaken as a shooter on the loose at the mall.

Novi police responded to Twelve Oaks Mall per reports of a robbery in progress and possible shots fired around 5 p.m Saturday.

The Detroit Free Press reports that a jewelry store display case was shattered.

Sources say police are looking for three African American men who may be driving a gold Chrysler 200. One suspect from inside can be seen getting into the gold Chrysler 200 before the vehicle drove off in an unknown direction. The robbery took place at Tapper’s Jewelry.

Police from Novi and neighboring departments are at the mall, securing the exits. Police said no shots were actually fired, but they are unsure if the suspect was actually armed.

On Twitter, multiple patrons at the mall reported a heavy police presence and some speculated that a shooting had taken place.
