The Palm Beach Gardens police officer who gunned down civilian Corey Jones early Sunday was on a surveillance mission in the parking lot of the DoubleTree Hotel on PGA Boulevard and had no business leaving his post to confront Jones, Gossip Extra has learned exclusively. He called his brother to tell him he was about to call a toll truck, and that’s the last thing anyone in his family heard from him, family members told CBS 12.

“We don’t know where his body is, we don’t know what’s going on, all we know is someone knocked on the door and said this has happened”, Jones’ cousin, Ava Wright told CBS12.

Raja, who was in plain clothes, believed Jones’ vehicle was abandoned and stopped to investigate it, according to a statement released by Palm Beach Gardens Police on Monday afternoon. Per Department policy the officer is now on paid administrative leave and an independent investigation is being conducted by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.

Palm Beach Gardens Police Department have yet to speak publicly on the deadly officer-involved shooting but did email out a statement to media Monday. PBSO directed us back to PBGPD, but did say they are awaiting information from PBGPD to find out what led up to the shooting itself. “The family needs a few comfort. He’s a really good kid”, Martin Jones said.

Jones’ grandfather, Bishop Sylvester Banks, and other family members work at the church.
