Police locate for missing 6-year-old boy

A six-year-old boy has gone missing from a property in the rural Victorian town of Beechworth.

He was found safe and well a short time ago by a motorcycle rider.

A police search of the family’s large property failed to find the boy.

The six-year-old is said to be mildly hypothermic following his night out in freezing conditions.

Anyone who sees Ben is urged to contact the Beechworth Police Station on 5728 1032.

Sergeant Geoff Still from Victoria Police said the search would be ramped up. It’s rained all night here and we are very concerned about him’.

A helicopter and sniffer dogs had been called in to help local police.

EARLIER: Conditions worsened overnight as emergency services and residents searched for a missing autistic boy at Beechworth, in northern Victoria.

The alarm was raised after Ben Dean disappeared from his home on Chiltern Road, Beechworth about 5:00pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Ben, 6, has Down syndrome and so might not react quickly or respond to calls, she said.

Additional resources such as the Air Wing, K9 and Search and Rescue are assisting local police.
