Police officer, partner killed outside Paris, child rescued, officials say

The attacker was also killed in the ensuing confrontation with police, while a three-year-old boy was rescued from the scene.

A spokesman for France’s interior minister told AP that a police officer, a woman and their attacker have been killed following a stabbing outside of Paris.

A police source said officers had responded to a hostage situation at a house in Magnanville, about 35 miles (55km) west of the French capital.

“The toll is a heavy one”, Brandet told reporters his voice shaking with emotion.

The officer was killed by nine stab wounds in the abdomen outside his home in Magnanville, in the Yvelines tonight, according to French media.

“The assailant, the criminal was killed”. He was in the house. He’s safe and sound.

Mr Salvaing was married with a child, and was known as a ‘friendly police officer with a very good reputation, ‘ said a former colleague.

“The investigation is beginning”.

The identity and the motive of the assailant were not immediately clear.

Unconfirmed reports claim the wife of the officer has also been killed by the attacker.

An Interior Ministry spokesman in Paris said a police negotiator has started talking to the attacker, who has not yet been formally identified.

He said the investigation would help determine the circumstances of “this tragedy that has shocked all of France”.
