Police Officer Shot Dead in Georgia

According to CBS News, authorities said a police officer was shot and killed Saturday by a suspect who is still on the loose.

The suspect left the scene.

The statement added that Smith was transported to a hospital, where he died.

The shooting happened in a residential area near a rail line that runs through the middle of Eastman.

State police have named a suspect – 24-year-old Royheem Deeds – in the shooting death of a central Georgia police officer.

A police officer was fatally shot while responding to a call about a suspicious person near an intersection in southern Georgia, police said on Sunday.

Whitely added that an unidentified suspect is being sought and an investigation is ongoing.

Patrolman Tim Smith was shot when he was responding to a call about a suspicious person, reports USA Today.

He is survived by three children, Landon, Lander and Madison and three siblings. That officer, whose name has not been released, was responding to a report of a vehicle break-in when one of two suspects opened fire, striking the officer, police said.

Both juvenile suspects are in custody.
